"A New Idea of Beauty" by Kristen Peterson

Rachel Moseley was born in Los Angeles and grew up in Santa Cruz, California. She has been a artist for as long as she can remember, and began experimenting with spray paint when she entered high school. Graffiti art dramatically changed her perspective of the type of artist she wanted to be. Her focus drifted from fine art to "lowbrow", comic book and modern illustration. She also began stenciling which ultimately led to an interest in printmaking when she reached college. For the last three years, drawing and printmaking have become her passions and preferred mediums.  She currently lives in Northern California where she is studying printmaking and women's studies.

The focus of her work revolves around what she calls, "The type of girls I'd like to hang out with." Hookers and circus freaks, Strange Girls and Seductresses, "These girls are exactly who they are, they are proud and sexy and embrace what other's might perceive as flaws...they do not apologize, they are strong."

She is influenced by artists like Ryan Grobler, Dani Kantrowitz, Natalia Fabia, Miss Van, Glenn Barr, Mel Ramos, Sophie Calle, Barbara Kruger and too many more to list. She is also influenced by rock concert posters, tattoo art, old advertisements and circus posters, ugly wall paper and French pin up art from the 20's (full French bush).

After Graduation, Rachel plans to pursue her art, as well as a master's degree.
